Don't say...storms are always good.
The day started with a lunch-time 21st party at the Story Bridge Hotel...after a lonnnggg lunch we headed home to notice an afternoon storm brewing.
AS the wind, rain and hail picked up intensity I went into my typcial hysterical over-drive to reinforce that everything was OK, we are safe and that in fact, it's very exciting.
As the water gathered a quarter of the way up the back screen-doors I honestly had no idea whether we might end up with a river of water through our house. All the while I am reassuring that all is well - although I am beginning to think it's not OK at all.
Leesy grew up in cyclone territory and knew that this was much more than a normal storm. I suspect she may have been looking to retreat to the bathroom for shelter.
Afterwards, I was shocked to see that the entire street had been badly effected with large trees covering the road, houses flooded, debris scattered, plants and gardens shredded to pieces.
School was closed due to fallen power-lines ("Yay", the boys said) and our neighbours car crushed by a large gum tree (of course, they didn't say "Yay").
Feeling very fortunate, we settled in to our oldie-worldie candle-carrying soup-eating routine until this morning at 3am when the electricity was returned in a blinding display (we had not turned all of the lights off at the switch).

oh my goooodness! When you didn't blog for like, 3 days in a row, and then I heard there were storms at the gap, I was majorly beside myself. I am glad that you all had fun in the storm and escaped unscathed (but for blindess). AND i need to express my super big impressedness that it takes a cyclone to keep you from blogging! You are my blogging idol (kind of like Australian idol, but different).
